About Me

Experience Summary

*** SUMMARY *** Hi, my name is Jeffrey Breugelmans. I am a Dutch native (hence the name) and have lived in the US since 2010 when I moved to Boston to pursue a PhD in Industrial Engineering. I currently work for VR startup here in LA, and I enjoy tutoring SketchUp in my spare time. I have worked with students on Architectural Modeling, Interior Design, Set Design, as well as 3D printing for consumer products. For examples of my previous work with students, please visit www.SketchUpLA.com *** BACKGROUND AND TEACHING EXPERIENCE *** From a young age onward, I have always had a fascination with exploring things and sharing my findings with others. Being an engineer at heart, I have focused most of my studies on technology, but I never fail to keep the most vital component in mind: the person using it. -- As a result, I have studied various sciences, from my background in Electrical and Industrial Engineering to the physical and cognitive ways we interact with our technologies. Some of my favorite topics in school were Psychology and Consumer Behavior. For my PhD dissertation, I developed an alternative computer interface to assist those who experience physical disability. -- I gathered my first teaching experience in my late teens when I traveled to Austria to become a certified multilingual snowboard instructor (Dutch, English, and German). As part of this training, I learned how to communicate my knowledge and promote skill development through demonstrations and coaching. Once I earned my certificate, I worked at an indoor, year-round, skiing facility in the Netherlands, teaching students of all ages the abilities needed to be a skilled and confident snowboarder. The classes I taught varied from children as young as six to people in their 60’s. I continued to teach as a part-time job for eight years, until I moved to the US to pursue my doctorate at Northeastern University in Boston, MA. -- Aside from my personal studies at Northeastern University, I was offered positions as a Teaching and Research Assistant at the School of Engineering. I cherished these teaching opportunities, as I got to work with students in both undergraduate and graduate classes, and enjoyed a broad range of responsibilities. To list a few of these, I would help my professors build and fine-tune their curriculums, prepare and teach lectures, organize and conduct labs, compose assignments and exams, as well as assist in grading and tutoring.

Teaching Style

I am a patient and supportive teacher, as well as an avid learner myself. I enjoy working with students who have little to no experience, and particularly those who are less computer savvy. Just like the technologies I design are always tailored to support and empower their users, I will ensure that our sessions are perfectly geared towards your success.

My Hobbies

Being outdoors: hiking, camping, snowboarding, or playing soccer. I enjoy learning about design and perform freelance 3D modeling
